This exhibit explores the relationship we have with interiors and exteriors. As extensions of landscapes the spaces we inhabit carry meaning and become the stages where stories emerge, repeat themselves, or simply fade. The paintings, drawings and video work of Jacky Dupuis, Isabelle Michaud and Katie Huckson in Habitations convey this complex relationships we have with our living spaces.

Jacky Dupuis is originally from Windsor, Ontario. She has been working on this series of collage for the last two years. Dupuis has lived in Sault Ste Marie for 10 years with her husband Paul and daughter Gloria.

Katie Huckson is an interdisciplinary artist with an experimental, research-oriented and socially-engaged practice. Her work is rooted in memory, identity, place and a fear of losing control. Huckson completed her MFA from the University in 2017 and her BFA from Algoma University in 2014. She has exhibited her work across Canada and abroad and has participated in residencies in Colorado and Hue, Vietnam. Her video Normal Disorders premiered at the NEDIC VoicED Arts event in Toronto in 2017 and won best student film at the University of Colorado’s Light’s Camera Action Festival in 2017.

Isabelle Michaud  grew up in Cap-Rouge, Québec outside of Québec City. She joined the Visual Arts program at Algoma University in 2012 and graduated in 2018. Michaud completed her degree while teaching French part time in the Modern Languages department. She lives in Sault Ste. Marie with her husband David Brodbeck and her son Jonathan.
